I work at a bike salvage yard and one of my customers is a 20-something who's mad to restore his 650B2 (bought last Fall) which, admittedly, is in pretty good overall shape right now but does need paint. I tried to talk him into doing a mild cafe but he's not buying into that. He says he's got a line on 650B1 that will be perfect for a cafe project cuz he can put all the really good stuff on the B2. Fair enough.
This is where it all gets....strange ?? Cosmically serendipitous ??
A collector bike guy I know (late 40's) that I haven't seen in over a year shows up at my work today with.....wait for it....a 650D1 in fairly nice stock shape. He just bought it about a month ago. The somewhat faded paint is the only flaw I can see.
Now what are the odds that 3 guys who hang out at the same place would go out and end up with all three models of the 650 that were produced for the 1978 model year ?? And have bought the bikes within 6 months of each other ?? In a city with a metro area of about 1.3MM people ?? The odds are staggering!!!
The whole thing is just TOOOOO strange, IMO.
I'm going to try to get all three of our bikes together for some pics ASAP and I'll post the link to my Photobucket page as soon as it's available.
