Anyone know how many 1978 KZ 1000A cycles were produced? How many 78 KZ 1000's for that matter? I would also like to know how to read the number stamped on the frame. Mine reads KZT00A-518523. Does this have any meaning? I know it is a KZ 1000 A model, but it is the other numbers I am wondering about. Maybe a day and month..... Just useless information I know, but I am interested.

I don't know the figures off hand but the KZT00A5 means it was a USA build model in Lincoln Nebraska. The 18523 number after that is the number in sequence so you have the 18523rd USA built KZ1000A.

Were some of these bikes built elsewhere?
Ron, what about the KZT00A tells you that it is a US model?

I am just trying to find out everything I can about the beast. Ya, I am that kind of person...

Go to www.zedder.com then click on 'bike info' then scroll down to your bike...ranges of frame numbers are given...do the math making sure to look at both A2A and A2 production numbers and also US and Japan numbers. Ignore the ranges for engine VIN's as this series motor was used in A, B, and police series bikes. FYI, it is not the KZT00A that tells you it is a US assembled bike, but rather the leading '5' in the number series.

EDIT: You will eventually chat with people who swear that there was also Canadian production facility, in addition to the Japan and US (Nebraska) facilities. This cannot be verified.
