Hi,
Does anybody know what the high end and low end books values are for selling and trading in a 1978 KZ1000A2? It has about 40K. I have spent about 4 hours online looking for one, and haven't been able to find anything.

Thanks
Wamp

Wamp:

According to the 2007 edition of Vintage Motorcycles it is US$550 to $2750. That said, the lowest limit is for a non-running partial bike and the upper limit is for a bike in superb shape...that also said, those bikes in superb shape go for up to US$7000, despite what the 'officials' say. If you have a decent running bike you can expect at least US$2000 as a baseline.

EDIT: DO NOT trade your bike...the dealers will eat you for lunch and re-sell your bike for the real value

Vintage Motorcycle mag pices are pretty far off. Like you said a pristine condition KZ1000 is worth much more than $2750. And who would pay $550 for a partial, non running bike in horrible condition? Check out this link. It is some of the 78 KZ1000 that have been on Ebay in the last week or so. tinyurl.com/24povs

It also depends on where you live. When I tried to sell mine a year or so ago I couldn't get $1500 for it.

Don's right about location. Here in SoCal, KZ1000s are pretty rare. You almost never see a 900 or 1000 for sale for less than $2000. But CA's climate helps to keep the bikes in pretty good shape. Not too much rust, unless it's been kept by the beach.
