So I mentioned somewhere that I won a 1978 KZ-1000 on Ebay from an auction Gringo sent to me. Well I picked it up today and the guy wouldnt even accept any extra $$. I get it back to my friends house and unbolt the seat (no keys) it's missing a lot of parts, no carbs etc. The engine was painted with crappy gray paint, BUT... under the seat I found accell coils, I see a wire connected to them that is not OEM so I pulled the ignition cover, brandy new looking Dyna S! My bike still has points so this is GREAT! I also took the tank and the seat home with me. My seat is trashed, this one isnt great but much MUCH better. Tank has a pingel petcock welded to it, pretty nice job. I can at least use this tank while I finally paint mine! As usual here's some pics. Wicked nice guy too, had a few beers, he does some really nice work on his Honda V's, impressive.

Did I mention it also has an almost mint condition Kerker 4/1 with the baffle? Waaay nicer than mine! The motor turns over too, clutch is frozen but has brand new cable on it. Has good handlebar switches, nasty high rise handlebars.

Oh yeah, in an unrelated find I got boxes of KZ-750 parts, and Ninja parts for free. I will be sorting through it all and seeing what's what as soon as I find time. Will be giving it all away to whoever needs them and wants to pay for the shipping. I know I have a nice set of mag wheels so far, and an almost complete engine. I honestly didnt even open the bins yet so no idea what else I have.

Congrats Ron kind of like Christmas in June. If the seller would have taken better pics and described it a little better it he could have fetched some serious money from that bike. Did you ever tell him it is a 1000 and not a 750 like he thought? Who says there are no good deals to be had on Ebay anymore?

Congrats, Ron.

BTW, ACCEL coils don't get much mention around here with everyone seeming to run straight to the Dyna coils. But, they work and work well. Of course, they have that funky yellow wire which looks kind of trick in its own right. The nice thing is that the entire four cylinder kit with wires can be bought for about the same price as one Dyna coil.

OTOH, no one else makes an electronic ignition like Dyna either. So, I guess it's the best of both worlds. And the Dyna plus ACCEL 3 ohm coil combination works quite well.

True, guess I wont waste any time feelin bad for my good fortune ;)
I did tell him, my friend said when I told him it was a 1000 he looked like he swallowed a bug. He didnt wanna believe me either, showed him the block marking.
Got some work to do today, can't wait to get some of this stuff on my bike!
