Sorry to hear about your Dad! I love this motorcycle and was subscribed to this thread. Pricing is going to be difficult because of the custom work that was done. Sometimes that can hurt the value but this work is top quality....might be worth quite a bit to the right buyer. Almost always though, you can't get out what you've put in...I know that from years of losing money on these things! I'll be watching...good luck with the sale.

So sorry for your loss.

This bike is epic. A seemingly never ending display of your fathers talents for machining and customizing. It would be very sad to see a bike like this wind up in the hands of someone that won't properly worship the masterpiece that it truly is.

Really appreciate the kind words guys. I would never let this bike go into the wrong hands. It would have to be someone who truly respects what this bike is made of. It might take awhile to find a buyer, but I really would love to get it into the right hands. Could anyone even PM me with a possible range that this "could" sell for from the right buyer who understands what was put in?

Thanks,

Steve Junior

He did an amazing job with that bike, specially the blowthrough carbs setup. Very clean turbo bike.

Wow.., I Flew through this thread only to find the craftsman behind it is no longer with us.
I personally would find it very hard to quantify the work and customization that has gone into this bike. Whatever price you arrive to, would probably not be enough.
Sorry to hear about your dad, and good luck with the sale.
This is my build:

There are many more like it, but this one is mine... news to come!

so sorry to hear of your dads passing .we had conversed a few times .

just shooting from the hip if this bike is is in running condition .starts and runs .
i wouldn't take less than $3000.00 for it .
but would probably list it @ $5500.00 or $6000.00 just to flesh out some buyers.

Thanks again guys.

BlackBanshee, I appreciate you giving me a good starting amount to work with. I ended up selling one of his machines to one of my good friends who is a machinist and would take good care of it. The others are still in the garage.

$3000 is too low. Although that may be all you can get. That bike easily has $10k worth of labor into it.

If that thing was mine I hold it until you find the right guy to take it. The money would be less an issue than finding a guy you can trust to take care of it. Easy for me to say though, I don't know your financial situation.

BTW, I had a South Bend 9" lathe like shown in one of the photos, and I greatly regret selling it. I'd be a knocking if I lived close enough to take that thing off your hands.

I knew your father from the practical machinist forum... He was a very skilled fabricator and machinist with some lovely vintage machine tools. Very sad to hear he is gone. That 650 is a magnum opus of a very skilled man doing something he loved. Its value as a motorcyle is finite but the effort and work behind it is priceless.
If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

Hello Everyone,

I was lucky enough to make a deal on this bike with Steve Jr. I plan on picking it up today. I will continue to honor Steve Sr's build and update the current state of the build and any upgrades i make.

It is awesome!
