Ok after im done restoring my 74 Z1 900 over the winter, i wanna build a Eddie Lawson Replica. What bike is a good platform to build off of? Could a 78 Z1R work as a possability. Now normally my girlfriend would be totaly against me starting on another project, but we were out on the Z1 the other day, and were at a car show and seen a ELR replica, and to my amazment she said " thats the kind of bike you should build next ". So im taking my newfound freedom and running with it. So if you guys can give me any kind of hint's or suggestions i would really apreciate it. Thanks

Marry that girl first, then start on the ELR. Women like that don't come around often. I know I've got one that wants me to have other toys to play with as well.

I'm working on a 1981 GPz 1100 injection converted to BS34's, going towards the ELR look. I'm having a bit of trouble deciding which way to go with stripes. Seems like everyone does these a bit different.

Harold. In my opinion the blue stripe on the bottom with the white above(AKA the American version)is the way to go, I did mine this way. I also like a black stripe on the bottom with white above(this looks really sharp too)

I go with Barneys idea. Th ´82 model striping is nicer that ´83 IMO. My ELR is originally ´83 but looks like this nowadays:

The 'Z' model Kaws have a very different frame and I've never seen one ELR-ed convincingly. Mostly b/c you can't get the 'correct' fuel cel. As most others here have noted the '81-'82 GPz1100 is a pretty easy convert; paint + carbs + pipe = *poof*! a very convincing 'clone'. You can go with a 'J' model and put a GPz1100 fuel cel on, but the fuel will need a couple mods (1-the fuel out-lets usually need relocated and one of them closed...easy for a machinist; and 2-the fuel tank posts on the frame will need to be narrowed for the GPz-style tank.) Real do-able stuff.

Keep us posted on what you get yourself into! :)
