Had to google this one!  Sounds like a great tradition, although I can't say I'm up for eating haggis!

My mum was Scottish so I was no stranger to the haggis, like everything there are good ones and some "not so good" :)

It was a grand time. The haggis was processed in with pipes and the host (in kilt) performed the ritual while reciting Ode to a Haggis. Dinner followed with recitations and comradery. Some single malt may also have been involved.

My wife and I usually celebrate Robbie Burns Night with a haggis (purchased from a vendor in Oregon...who apparently has gone out of business very recently).  He sold 'americanized' haggis as the FDA has banned certain portions of sheep anatomy from being used and sold in the USA. We also served with traditional neeps and tatties and washed all down with a Laphroaig and in my case, a Belhaven or two. Alas, this year, we skipped the celebration as we could not source any haggis. BUT, this fall, we visit Scotland and we intend to find some real haggis.

I was born in Scotland and can trace my heritage back to the 1300's, but because I don't have a clan name (Germanic last name) we don't celebrate such stuff.

And that is another thing I need to explore when in Scotland this fall...my clan heritage.
