750 Cafe progress...
13 Sep 2006 17:37
It's been a long time since I posted last, but here's what I've been working on. It was a 1981 KZ750. I've scrounged, bought, and fabricated a few things and hope to have it finished for one ride before the snow falls. Then I'll pain it up so it's ready for next year. Here's hoping anyway.
...and one more for the ladies:

Thanks!
I was thinking black with a gold pinstripe, but I haven't decided yet. I also thought of perhaps doing black with a dark red and cream colored double pin stripe. I'm open to suggestions...

Either the black, or match that helmet of yours with the offset stripes. Sweet looking ride!

I thought about painting it to match the helmet, but then I thought it might look too...well, you know.
A friend of mine has a Virago that used to have a red tank with gold wheels. I hated that thing - we swapped in a dark grey tank with thin gold pinstripes - what a difference!
I'll have to take some close-up shots of the rearsets. They are Raask that I got from Omar's. They are made for the bike but don't actually fit the bike. I talked with Raask for a while about this and they told me that I must not have a KZ750, because there is no doubt in their mind that these rearsets fit a KZ750. The problem is with the fitment of the rear master cylinder. The original rearset plate is drilled completely incorrectly to mount the cylinder - it'll never work. I made a plate to mount the cylinder to, then mounted the plate to the rearset plate. There's also a bit of a clearance issue on the right side near where the original footpeg mounts.

Did they specify "which" KZ750 they fit?
As in KZ750B, G, K, M, E, H, R, L??

There's an "E" cast into the plate right after the 750, so I'm guessing...
