Has anyone modified their tank to accept a vortex gas cap before?

as far as i know, if you have to "modify" the bung then your better off getting a replacement part.
reason being, this is one of the strongest parts of your tank.
im not sure what entailed with this conversion but it sounds like it could only lead to trouble.

please enlighten the uneducated(myself atleast) as to what a vortex cap is/does.

The vortex is a bolt in base with a simple screw-in cap. It's a flush gas cap replacement for newer bikes.
