Tank emblem removal?

Does anyone have any hints, tips, or advice on the best way to fill in the indentions left when you remove the tank emblems? I was thinking of using JB Weld to fill in the majority and then finishing it off with body filler. Think it would work that way?

Did an XS tank like that, turned out OK.
Lay the filler in proud of the surface of the tank and slowly (slowly, slowly, slowly) deck it down to match the curve of the tank.
