kz 750 ltd two piece seat conversion

17 Aug 2006 22:33

I was wondering if anyone knew if I could put a one piece seat on my 81 kz750 ltd it has the two piece presently but it is in really bad condition. I would like to put a one piece on it and maybe a 900 or 1000 rear fender. If anyone knows how or has made a conversion like that please let me know what to do.

I'm in the process of dorking around with it now on mine. I've taken off the back section of the seat and plan on cutting off a bit of the rear frame. I'm going to add a 650 tailpiece and then probably fab up my own seat. This conversion has been done by members of this site, but I haven't been able to find many details myself. I'll be getting into the project sometime this fall and plan on detailing w/ photos my progress. I'd be glad to bounce ideas back and forth with you

You could look for a seat from an 1981-1983 650 CSR, they are a one piece seat, the 650 and 750 are basically clones of one another so it will bolt right on. Kawasaki went to a one piece seat in 1983 for the 750 ltd so if you could find one of those, it would work as well. The 650 CSR's were pretty plentiful so you should be able to find one no problem.

Sweet I will try a seat from the 80's models. If the frames are the same the rear fenders should bolt up as well I might get a 900 fender and see how much needs to be changed. The one peice seat is definetly a conversion I am going to do. looks so much better than the 2 piece.

navyflyr, when you say you want to add a 900 or 650 fender do you mean a tail piece? I never liked the tall, boxed look of the 750 LTDs rear-ends (just my taste) so I tried a 900 tail. It stuck out way too far so I went with a 650 tail and I think it looks better. (There's a thread w/pix on how I attached it to the frame w/out cutting or welding) The seat is one I made myself using an '83 750 LTD seat pan. I like it OK but this winter I'm going to redo the seat into more of a slimmed down gunfighter type seat. Good luck!

wow that bike looks great. I really like the job you have done. I think that is the look I am after. I will look at the thread and see what i can do. as for the seat I might be able to run across one from a 650
