I just refinished my bike, and now it is back to the drawing boards. I was towing my bike, and it turned over. I am so heart broken. The tank has a dent, and it will have to be repainted. It is all good though, I have a better idea for a trim scheme that will go better with the bike. i thought I had the shocks completely compressed, and it was on the center backstand, I do not understand what happend.

I was using new 3000lbs tie downs 2 of them. I guess in a bounch they came loose. I couldnt get it tighter.

Do I understand you correctly, that you had the bike on the centerstand? If so, never, ever, tie a bike down while it on a side or center stand. Always use the tiedowns to stabilize the bike...:ohmy:

If you towed while the bike was on the centerstand, this is not advisable (as you found out). On the centerstand, you'll never be able to compress the front forks enough. The best way is to just stand the bike upright and compress each strap tight as you can, then get another set of straps and double up on the front, then use another set on the back wheel, or at least rope to tie the wheel from bouncing around. A friend of mine had a beautiful 73 Z1 that fell off his trailer at 65mph. One minute beatuful, next junk. Always overdo straps to be on the safe side.

Straps go high on the bike and low on the carrier.
Straps go front to back and back to front.
Put bike on side stand.
Set left side straps lightly.
Use right side straps and pull on bike to stand it up straight and compress the shocks a little.
On your strap ends, make a half hitch just in case the clamp slips or fails.

Never use centerstand. Just attach tie downs to handlebars and away you go. Have seen a truck in ditch on side with bike still tied down in back.

My bike fell over after the drags one night. I had four straps on and one end came loose and got caught under the wheel of the trailer. Good thing I have case gaurds. Always use four straps and cut the extra off.

Only time I had a bike fall over on my wife (gsx1100) while she was waiting for me to put on the straps. No major damage to her (a few torn back muscles) or bike (2 broken fins), but it was scarry for a bit. Now I only have my boys help me, as they are a bit stronger.
It is still to cold to ride!

I usually haul bikes in a pickup, and one bike at a time.
I put the front wheel against the front of the bed, then run one strap on each side of the handlebars with the forks compressed. Hauled one bike from San Bernardino CA to Muncie IN that way, and have never had a problem.
