1982 kz1000 LTD converted to police sidecar
30 Apr 2020 08:25 - 30 Apr 2020 08:39
I recently did some work on my 1982 KZ1000 LTD. It is now a kz1000p police conversion minus the fairing bolt mounts.
I have luggage from a 1993 kz1000p police unit.
The sidecar i bought for $130 USD at an antique shop in Oroville, Washington. Ive had it custom mounted to my kz1000. I had the mounting hardware made and chromed. Reinforced the police crash bar as its a load bearing unit now holding the upper sidecar mount.
I did the paint and bodywork myself. Turned out rather well because of the amount of prep work that went into it. I used some cheap cans of gloss black spray paint.
Sidecar seat was reupholstered, luggage rack was repaired and painted gloss black as well.

Looks amazing!
I'm not sure why, but I read this last night in my random wanderings.
Just something to keep an eye on.

Police conversion? So you put in the upgraded stator and oil reservoir? Because aside from the mounting tabs for the crash bars and front fairing, that's really the only difference.
KZs I own
1982 KZ750-H3 LTD (frame's bent, no longer rideable, RIP)
1982 KZ1100 LTD Shaft (thought it was a Spectre)
1988 KZ1000 Police
1989 KZ1000 Police (basket case)
2002 KZ1000 Police
Non-KZs:
1983 Hondamatic 450
2001 Honda Rebel
I don't understand soup. Put a flower on my nose.
