I'd like to remove the black finish from the alloy wheels on my KZ440 project bike. Has anyone here done that? If so, how did you do it? I searched through the forums and didn't see anything specifically about wheels.

It seems like a bead/media blasting shop would probably give the best results (rather than a DIY approach). Originally I had planned to have the wheels stripped and powdercoated silver, but I want to see how the bare aluminum looks first. Thanks!

I media blasted the wheels on my bike to remove the old finish. Used aluminum oxide and coal slag. A lot of work even with a blast cabinet.

That looks pretty good. Maybe I can skip the powdercoating.
