Never mind. it was a goober type question. but I kind of split the difference & masked the reservoir, then put the cap on.

Reminders for future ref. brake caliper cleaner. self-etching primer.
VHT brake caliper paint. VHT flameproof. Eastwood 2k high heat paint.
duplicolor pdf -->> caliper paint -->> features/benefits -->> application tips -->> download file. when spraying over paint, scuff w RED Scuff pad or 600 grit.

I have a 5/8 master cylinder that I hope to use for my next build, it works but I will rebuild it anyway.
The upper half is nylon I'm guessing? but very cloudy for lack of a better term.
The cap has prevented the brake fluid from getting on the outside for many years so I am looking for a solution for cleaning it up and maybe coating it with a product that is DOT-3 safe.
I read Somewhere that a 2 part epoxy clear coat might work.

Mine has a metal 1-piece body & metal cap. I've never heard of anyone painting a plastic mc, so you're on your own there. hee.

I baked the parts in the oven afterwards. The cap on this type of mc has a tendency to leak. Mine had a lot of hard crusty buildup on it, so I thoroughly cleaned up the reservoir & cap and will be installing a new diaphragm.

750 Ltd mc on left for comparison. mine had more caked on hard gunk that I hit with a brass wire wheel, but some of it required chiseling off in spots with an awl.

That looks fantastic, Martin!
I looked for a new diaphragm for mine last week, but when I started seeing prices in the $50.00 range, I decided to wait on on the new diaphragm. Mine isn't leaking (yet), but last time I flushed the brake fluid (2 months ago), the rubber was pretty close to being mush, if you know what I mean. :-)
Where / who are you buying the new diaphragm from? I looked on Z1 and eBay, but was not finding what I want.

I got the diaphragm at the dealer several years ago, but it is now NLA.

What master cylinder is yours? It doesn't look like the 1000-A1 or A2 shown in the diagrams at Partzilla. maybe I'm mistaken.
