Marving exhaust rusting!! was created by HeavenlyMachines
My GPZ750 came with dual marving exhaust. Looks good and sounds good.

But after *ONE* rain it rusted like this

Any explanation??? I wish I washed the bike

Hello HeavenlyMachines

Marving is a company in Italy, the manufacturing quality of the chrome plating are sadly poor and cheap..
The chrome layer is very thin and not the best part of the exhaust.
Good exhaust has 3 layer of plating, first copper - second nickel - third chrome
Marving used probable chrome only. You have to polish after every rain drive to prevent rust!!!

The is no way of chroming a metal if there is no copper layer.
Quality is about the thickness of the chrome layer.

HeavenlyMachines, are you sure that exhaust finish is black chrome?

Looks to me like you could wipe it off with some WD40 and a rag.

Wouldn't hurt to hit it with wd40 to see..... might be too late and not sure about paint........I for maybe 20 years hit my chrome Vance and Hines with wd after "every" ride (after cooling of course) and it stayed near perfect but then one day I got lazy and didn't and a little surface rust started at the head..... once it started and after a few other times of putting it off it grew and grew ...... now its not bad (like at 20,000 feet like my dad always says) but its not good either.

I have Marving pipes and I did mention previously that unfortunately the black chrome rusts. Saying that I don't know of any blackchrome pipes lasting as well as normal chrome. I have to admit yours looks really bad. My FJ1200 (black chrome Marving) took 6 months to rust but not as bad as yours (keep in mind Perth Australia weather, which is dryer).
I have heard that the Italian chroming is very poor, shame the performance of the Marving pipe itself is great.
Did you buy direct or through a supplier?,

Well THANK YOU for the WD40 tip. I put some liberal amount and then wiped it, and the rust is much less visible now.

When up close I can still see the botches/damages. But at least it saves me from repainting them!

Cheers!
