1981 KZ1000 LTD Side Cover Question

Happy New Year All!

I am working on an '81 KZ1000 LTD project, and am missing the right plastic side cover that shields the battery compartment - these apparently are surprisingly difficult to find, or are very expensive a broken or cracked piece. Z1 Parts has an aftermarket option, however it is for the Police version of the bike and wont fit the LTD version.

My main question is: Are there any cheap or cool side cover alternatives that I could explore instead of finding and putting the stock covers back on?

Z1Enterprises.com lists side covers for the KZ1000-K Ltd & 1000-M CSR models.
The 81-82 Ltd & CSR models are very similar to each other.
