fuel tank gasket doesn't fit was created by Z550tim
Hi, i bought new fuel tank gasket: 11009-1051, it should fit Kawasaki GT550.

Unfortunately i'm having troubles installing it, the diameters are the same, but new gasket lacks the sleeve on its inside edge.
So when i tighten the bolts down, the gasket slips out of that aluminum housing, i tried several times and no success. With the old gasket that aluminum housing go into the sleeve and hold it down.
So either i'm doing it wrong, or i got the wrong gasket. Anyone had the same issue? Thanks for your input.

Wrong part - you have the gasket for the old style KZ fuel tank filler cap, but not for the GT550, according to the Kawasaki part number.

Go back to your dealer and re-check the part number...also check if it has been superseded, too.

yes , something is wrong, because i just checked different Kawasaki catalog and the part number is different:
Ref. 11009b Part. No. 110091188 GASKET,FUEL TAP Z500-B3

although still not the exact match with the drawing below which shows: Ref. 11009A
www.motorcyclespareparts.eu/kawasaki-par...uel-tank-707261.aspx

Fortunately these are not some expensive parts , i may as well order and see if its right. I couldn't find any real photos of my gasket, even on ebay, and diagrams don't show such details like that sleeve on the edge.

I'm in the Americas, and I can't find any listing for a KZ550 newer than 1985 to look up parts, but if I was to take a chance with matching up a likely compatible part, I would try the gasket from a ZN1100B (1984 LTD 1100), as the fuel cap looks the same as yours...

Thanks for suggestion, i'll try to ask at the dilership but i doubt they'll help since even part catalog for ZN1100 doesn't list any part number, neither how does it look like.
www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Kawasaki/...FUEL+TANK/parts.html

So clearly there is an error in Kawasaki catalog regarding my model GT550, code name Z550-G4, because gasket: 11009-1051 is different.
There are are probably piles of the correct gaskets stashed somewhere in Kawasaki warehouse, but nobody buys them because nobody knows the part number.

My fuel cap is square type, just like those sold on ebay/$10 from Hong Kong, maybe i'll order one just to see if gasket is also the same.

But anyway its not that important, my old gasket is stiff but seems to be fine. I was buying it together with some other parts.

did you ever find a source for the correct gasket? I just ordered one for my KZ1000P and it was wrong like yours, it didn't have the lip on it. I installed it to see if it would stop the fuel from leaking but I still get seepage on my tank while riding
