ELR Clone Bodywork Questions
29 Feb 2016 08:40
Hi Guys-
After realizing my 81 LTD isnt as clean as originally thought, I've decided to just use it as the base to build the bike I want.
I love the ELR styled bikes and have a questions about fitting that style of body work to my LTD frame.
Are the tail sections on the ELR bikes special to those bikes or are they GPZ bodywork? Can the ELR seat be bolted to an LTD frame if the new tail section is fitted? Or should I hack to LTD seat pan to make it work?
What's involved in fitting a GPZ tank to an LTD frame?
I'm not looking for an exact clone but I want to use those styling cues in my build to create something original that I love.
Thanks in advance, I searched this topic a lot but could never find clear answers.

It is possible to convert your 1981 LTD to a ELR look-a-like. There is a member here who photo documented his conversion of his J series LTD to an ELR on this site...his first name is Otto but he hasn't been active for several years. Do some serious digging in the archives and you should find the photo-essay. It took some craftmanship but his end product was beautiful.

I've dug and dug but cannot dig up that post. Any of you guys know it?
I know Mookachacka was his screen name, but I found no way in the control panel to see all threads started by him. Nor did a google site specific search turn up anything.......help. LOL

It's the link that Mcdroid posted, but you have to go to page one and read through about 15~20 pages to see the final result.
