Decal, Pinstripe location on KZ1000A1 was created by redhawk4
Does anyone have a bike with the original coach lines who could take a few measurements for me. I was looking through various pictures on the internet of a number of bikes, most restored and even with my limited knowledge could see many have the decals applied incorrectly. I was helpfully supplied with these pictures on another thread, if any one could provide a few dimensions that would help locate exactly where they fit I'd be very grateful.

I have an original KZ1000A1 maroon tank and tail piece...which measurements do you need? Bear in mind that will not be able to measure anything until this evening (it is currently 1130 AM).

Thanks Mcdroid, I think we are still a few days away from applying the decals so no panic yet. I don't have time now, but tonight I will attempt to superimpose on the image .where I'd like to obtain a measurement, it's basically where to start with the stripe and end, although looking at it briefly it's not easy to define where to measure from and to, given the tank shape..

Well you really let yourself in for it volunteering :)

For the tailpiece, I think that can be worked out from the picture. For the tank I'd like the dimensions marked on the picture - apologies there are so many. In the end I felt measuring from the tank emblem recess, in line with the mounting screw, and a few other features was the only way to get a measurement where we could be sure we are measuring the same thing. I'm hoping as the decals are pre-cut some of it will fall into place if we can start with a couple of reference points.

Really pushing my luck, I'd like a picture of the back of the tank where it goes up against the seat to see what happens to the stripes as they go out of sight here. Many Thanks in advance :)

From that angle, the tank looks a bit to be an LTD tank, not a KZ1000A.

I found the various tanks to be very confusing, particularly when repainted without the decals, the LTD ones, minus some of the decals they used, can look totally different to stock. Sometimes when they are for sale it will just say KZ1000 and you are left trying to work out which one it is. I found the easy way to tell the A model tank versus LTD is the angle of the front edge by the head stock. The A tanks are pretty much vertical, the LTD tanks are angled back much more acutely revealing a lot more frame. The LTD tanks are also more "hump backed" coming forward from the seat whereas the A is pretty much a gradual slope to the filler cap. When you have the two side by side it's amazing you could ever confuse them, but often I look at bikes and pictures and have to look more than once to see which tank it has. It seems there could be more than one LTD style too, but that may just be an illusion created by the different but bold decals on some of the years.

redhawk4:

Measurements as follows (note that the measurements are to the nearest millimeter and were taken with a flexible ruler so I followed the curve of the surface between measurement points.):

A 86
B 56
C 56
D 53
E 57
F 30
G 20

I also have a photo of the rear of the tank where the stripes meet...PM me with your email address and I'll forward it to you {I'm working off a tablet so I have a difficult time attaching photos on this website).

I decided to do it now as it only took a couple of minutes. If anyone uses this as a reference please note Mcdroids comment he used a flexible rule and measured along the curve of the tank. Hope to have my tank finished soon, I'm excited to see it done, I will post a picture of the finished item.
