Z1 tail/lite fit KZA1? was created by Mk.2
Has anyone fitted the tail and or the tail lite from the 900's onto the KZ1000 bikes??
I like the shape of the 900 tail and lite and would like to hopefully bolt it up to my 77 1000.

If you're talking about the whole unit, it will bolt onto the fender.

I've thought about doing that too, but do you need a Z1 tail piece for it to look right/fit properly?

If you have the lens and holder, it will bolt on the the bracket. Looks a little funny with the squared tail and a oval tail light. The KZ 900/100 ones were squared on the top.

swest,

I was considering the entire tail along with the tail lite assembly so the oval lens looked right with the appropriate tail as on the Z1's.

just need to know if the painted Z tail section will bolt up to the 1000 frame mounts???

Exactly the same mounts, have a Z1 setup on the 80 LTD in my av
my bikes; 80kz1000(project), 77 gl1000, 74 h2 (project)
Past; 78 kz1000, 83 kz550

I saw a bike that started out as a LTD, but had had some mods to make it look more like a Z1, the round light and Z1 tail piece did look really good, it's hard to say why it looks so much better, but for me it does.

I'm thinking the KZ seat shape at the rear where it covers the tail might not match up real great with a Z1's more rounded tail?

Great, I was hoping it would bolt on. I'm thinking of going with a Z1 type paint theme and the 900 tail and 900 tank I have will achieve the look I'm leaning towards

The one I saw and have pictures of had a Corbin seat, so I don't know about a stock seat, that's a good point to consider. The repro seat I got for mine says for KZ900 and KZ1000, not the Z1 so there could be some differences to look out for. Looking at both tail pieces on eBay they are very similar.
