Got a seat off of ebay a few days ago and it said it would fit a MKII and I knew it wouldn't look exactly the same and I'm ok with it because it's the style I'm looking for but I quickly found out the seat wouldn't go over the tail  I have the idea to shave the tail so the seat will fall in place but I'm also thinking of trying a csr tail or or just a LTD fender and cut the frame off. What do ya'll think

I really like the lines of the tank and tail. They're both really flat boxy and horizontal. And the seat kind of leans forward. Looks good. I would do something to keep that consistent. I would either cut a few inches off the tail- front to back- to suck the tail in closer to the seat so you wouldn't see where the old seat fit into the tail. Or I would fill in that little corner where the old seat fit so the tail was the same but no indent. I don't think the LTD tail would look right with that tank. The seat has those little rubber spacers that match up with the frame rails can you tweak those to raise it maybe? Put spacers in for clearance or something? It would look cool how you have it mocked up. just my 2 cents...

Your problem is that goofy seat. A competent trimmer could chop and shape the seat foam and recover that a lot nicer.

Check out the 80's Guillari sport 2;4 seats, sold a beauty for £70 last year.

This is what a chimp with a new cover, a grinder and a sanding disc, can of spray glue, some foam offcuts and stapler can do.

(Rubbish job i know, will be reworked soon, needs more of a front hump and even more radical scoop... just it seems even the pros can't get an ELR seat 'just' right, trust me I've tried it -several times £££ so now have to try to perfect this myself...my point, basic seat covering ain't that difficult, the ELR probably the hardest of the lot.)

Would a hard tail solo seat look bad on a 81 csr 650 that was a bobber? Can't seam to find any pictures of one. Not sure if no one does it because it looks bad.

Yes, it would look bad to me, but then again all hardtail or boober stuff looks lame to me, so you probably want to ignore my opinion. Ed

Someone around here had a 650-CSR bobber listed on CL a while back with a solo tractor seat & John Deere paint job -- the thing was rather ugly, but at least it was Green. If you like bobbers n choppers n stuff, then it will look as good or bad as any other bobber chopper --- it all depends upon what you like & also your skills. There are a bunch of poorly done & plain old ugly renditions out there. not a fan. :)

Get yourself some fiberglass and make your own tail piece. Its messy and smelly but cheap and easy to work with and youll end up with something unique that fits perfectly to your frame.
( Good or bad, depending on how handy you are!)
