taking paint off of a motor was created by LuckyLucOnBass
So the PO of my bike painted the motor black. Which is fine. Except I think he over did it. He painted it black with an added clear coat to it. Again, I don't mind the black motor, it just needs touching up. But I think I should bring down the coats first. I'm afraid of it not letting the engine breathe.

What is the best way without having to remove it from the frame? Heavy sand paper?

Thank you.

As far as taking off the paint, Aircraft Remover by Rust-Oleum works well. Walmart, Autozone, Discount Auto parts, etc.. carry it. Do it outside, use latex gloves, eye protection, carbon filter mask (or at least dust mask). Stand up wind and don't breath when you're doing it.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationBlack is actually quite a different colour to match, also if it has been 2k clearcoated you face possible reaction problems. You might be ok - only one way to find out, test on a hidden area.

I've tries this one before and touching in can make it worse. Airbrushing a tiny spot at a time maybe but then your problems are colour match and reactions.

Black radiates heat better than silver, spray paint base and clear is only a few thou thick, I wouldn't worry about paint cooking the engine. The most powerful of the aircooled kz, the GPz series motors were all black. I know they all had oil coolers too but I don't think the engine colour is a big deal. If it was, then the colour would be matt black.

This is an engine out vapour blasting job.
