removing bondo from fuel tank emblems was created by dkoz
I'm a emblem kind of guy. this tank I have ,the emblems mounts have been bonded in really nice very smooth. From what little I've read after the paint is removed you can remove the bondo with a heat gun small plumbers torch scraping tools was wondering if anybody has done this before.
Furthermore i was wondering if when they fill this in. Do they remove part of the original mount I'm not sure how that procedure goes I'd hate to start digging on this thing just to find out I'd have to fill it back in.
Thanks

Good paint stripper and a wire wheel on a drill should get it out of there.Make sure to rough the whole tank up with sand paper after stripping so the primer will stick.

A modelmaker trick with bondo is that MEK (or any styrene/plastic weld from the local model shop) helps to soften/dissolve it so you can then scrape it off. Also I believe it is too much work to remove the original emblem holder so you may be lucky and it's still there, Do you know if the PO bashed in the emblem area?.... look inside tank)

I live near Portland, Oregon and my rider is a '76 KZ900 I bought new. I'm also in the process of restoring another one and a '73 Z1.

I have heard that soda blasting will work on bondo and won't hurt the metal.

Plummers torch works good to burn the bondo off, it softens it so it scrapes off easy. 90% of the filled in tanks I have stripped still had the emblem plates intact.
