what kind of sanding will leave a matte finish? was created by dreblack
Hi!
I recently stripped all the paint off of my tank. I did three different coats and scraping, now I just have the faintest traces of paint in a couple spots. Ultimately, id like to keep the tank dull and matte. I don't plan on repainting it. I like the mad max ratty look. BUT, I want to get the rest of this paint off (it looks pink!). What kind of sanding technique will get rid of the paint, but keep the matte finish? I don't mind polishing it up a little bit, but again, would like to keep it ratty.

I'm doing the exact same thing with the exact same tank and color! I've taken all my paint off with aircraft paint remover and then sanded with a 400 then 600 grit wet sanding in a swirling pattern to just get the metal clean and a consistent pattern on it. I'm going to clear with that 2K Clear in a spray can. I don't have any pics right now but will try to get some up. It's left a fairly matte look to it. Not sure what the clear will do though.

Why not shoot some matte clear coat? this will give you the matte finish

+1 I would use a matte finish so you can put several coats of clear on it and get a nice deep finish.

I agree with the matte clear but if for some reason you can't find any a green scotch brite will leave you with a nice matte finish and no noticeable scratches.
Cheers,
