I'm heavily debating cutting down the foam on the stock seatpan to my liking and covering it myself. I would love to see if anyone else has attempted this and if so.......let's see um!!! And any tips or advice would help. Thanks.

A great tool for shaping the foam is a turkey or roast beef elec carving knife. I have not tried it myself but I've read it works really well.

There are lots of examples around of people reshaping the foam. On my KZ1000, for example, the difference between the "LTD" and the "CSR" is strictly foams - the seat pans are the same.

I had mine done by an upholstery shop. Had them cut the foam in have. The down side was that it no longer covered the tip of the tank and left a hole.

Gifted LTD pan, (original was rusted to nothing!) stock LTD foam (re-sculpted with electric carving knife) fine tuned with belt/pad sander with coarse (80 grit) paper. re-covered with new vinyl off fleabay...Some people find upholstery intimidatting, but I sort of enjoy it...Was one of the first things I did to her...

I didn't like the stock seat either, but rather than modifying the stock one I've decided to go the whole hog and make a brand new pan and seat base.

I've not go too far, but I've cleaned up all the frame area ready for the new base.

Its actually an 1175, originally a 75 Z1 drag bike. I found a 77 KZ1000 frame that was already raked with a tiitle and transfered the drive train and bodywork to it. I collect the old honda-kawasaki motorcycles.
ofcourse they dont ride nothing like the new stuff-but it's enough to get this 55 year old man excited some times. LOL
