Any tips on using the 2K Spray Max?
21 Feb 2014 18:11
Will soon be trying this stuff out I hope. Any tips? Lots of thin coats? Time between coats? Painting is not an area of expertise for me so any info is appreciated! Thanks

Is this the clear coat? or just startin out with the primer?
I assume the clear coat. No thin coats! Wet, medium cover. Shiney lookin at you. Overlap wet coats.
You only need 3 coats at most of clear. Adjust your gun to shot a like "Eyeball" pattern.
No dry coats! Slow even pattern 5-10 minutes between coats. Depending on temp. and the activator, slow, med, high temp range. More confused now?? Ha Ha. Pratice on a piece of anything, Small part or piece of sheet metal. Go with the fastest dry tme stuff. Low temp. Your spray gun will have 2 adjustments fluid and air. Search Youtube, probally a million paint tutorials.
I always shot at the door to fine tune my spray pattern, mostly primer and color.
Good luck, watch some of the car retoration shows. That helps too.

Yep, the clear but it is the clear in the spray can with an activator.

This is from their site but for 2K chassis black same mix ratio though.
" APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Ceramic Chassis Black may be applied using an HVLP gun with a 1.3 mm—1.7 mm fluid tip. Apply in two medium wet coats, allowing 15-20 minutes flash between coats. A dry film thickness of 2 mils is recommended. If required for improved flow and leveling, Ceramic Chassis Black may be reduced by up to 10% with a high-quality Urethane-Grade Reducer such as Eastwood’s Zero VOC Reducer (50104ZP)."
Not sure if this helps. There videos on YouTube did not give dry/tack times either.

Make sure you have the correct temperature in the area where you are going to apply it, and for a decent amount of time after. Have all your parts lined up and ready as you only have about 24 - 36 hours to use up the can once mixed together, and that is keeping it somewhat cool. Get any buffing or wet-sanding done as soon as it dries so that you can re-coat soon if necessary. I am waiting for good temperatures to do the same but at $33.00 a can I am not going to waste it.
Good luck.

Thanks, I was watching a video on you tube from a company that sells the product. The guy claimed that after 10 hours the product got a little grainy. Good point on the buffing, hoping I wont need to recoat anything. Here is link to video I watched. Other products covered. There 2 part primer sounds good too.

I have never used the 2k clear in a spray bomb but the procedure should be the same as any clear
medium wet coats few minutes flash time make sure you take your time and overlap you will see it burn in as you go
couple of coats should do it if your not covering artwork or striping

I have done a few tanks with this. I always spray a lighter coat first, wait a few minutes, then start laying the wet coats down. 3 or 4 coats should be good, make sure it's between 75 and 85 degrees out.

i used the same spraymax in a can. you need to use it all with in a day or two ,light coat first then keep building it up . a few mins between coats took a while to dry maybe 18 hours or so . i did mine out side on a nice warm day . works nice and gas dosent hurt it at all .

Read the can or the instructions here:
www.repaintsupply.com/pd_2_part_2k_aerosol.cfm
You'll probably get some orange peel so wet sand it out with 1500 then 2000, then buff with polish and wax.
