Gas tank cap

Would it be difficult to modify a 1982 KZ1000 gas tank to have a fill cap like the picture attached? I like the lower profile.

Well after looking at how the caps mount on the KZ1000 and on modern sportbikes theres no way it would bolt on. So what im thinking, if I can fid a person to do the cutting and welding, is I will cut the mounting area off of a modern tank, cut off the mounting hole on the KZ1000, and weld on the modern flush gas cap mount. Does anyone see any reason why this wouldnt work out?

Id cut it out where the red circle is.

It's a common mod with cafe racers. Cutting out the old one and welding it the new one is the only way I've seen it like the pic above (nice work btw).

Yeah I really like the look of his! I started stripping the paint off of the zx6r donor tank and off of my KZ1000 tank only to find a lot of bondo and "repair" work under the paint. I was just looking at it and even found a very small hole in one of the welds where they repaired something. Is something that a good shop could fix or should I just get a new tank?

Of course Leon has done that. He's like the Chuck Norris of motorcycle building. Hey wait a minute, is that a motorcycle I see inside your house Leon? Or was that a piece of furniture you just happened to shape into a motorcycle with your welder? :woohoo:

the pin hole should be able to be welded by a qualified welder.
