Yes sir, I always wash the surfaces with a good dishwashing soap, dry, then wipe with a good wax-grease-silicone remover. I love to use some Dupont 3812S to wipe down areas before any sanding is done. Never sand first as you embed the contaminants into the paint and can cause reactions.
