Vintage paint scheme ideas was created by nitrokeeb
I would like to finish my bike with a 70's hot rod theme. I would like the vintage feel to carry over to the paint scheme. I like the 70's dirt bike tank with decals being used on cafe's, choppers, and brat bikes. Unfortunately, Kawasaki's of that vintage didn't have as appealing graphics as the Yamahas, Can Ams, and Harley Sprints.

Here's my inspiration so far:

All the above would require custom paint. I do like the look of AMF era Harley tanks, and could even buy reproduction decals. I just have no idea if they would work with the shape of the KZ tank.

Anyone have more suggestions?

Aussie 70's paint tended to be air brush work ...murals etc.
Have you looked through the Gallery, must be something in there for inspiration?

Kawasaki's of that vintage didn't have as appealing graphics as the Yamahas, Can Ams, and Harley Sprints.

Could be a few that'd disagree with that. ;)

Don't worry, I'm not going this route:

And don't both those bikes have decals? Either way I bet that V8 sounds amazing.

I'll think I'll leave the airbrushed murals in the 70's with the bellbottoms and custom vans. I think my best bet is to look at old race bikes. The gallery is mostly stock bikes and will be a lot to wade through to find custom paint. Maybe the dragbike/streetbike photo thread is where I should start.

How about a 1973 Z-1 Scheme done in different colors? Or an H-2 style wave stripe design. Both VERY Kawasaki!

I don't think the Z1 is the look I'm going for. I checked both the H1 and H2 schemes. I like the H1 design.

It would require filling the stock emblem mount though, and I would like to run the stock badges.

I found these two that I like. Is this stock or custom?

Both of the KZs are custom "stock" style. The H1 is a 1974 stock bike. A lot can be done with custom, stock style decals.

A few "not so stock" colors I've used.
