GPz750 Replacing Decals Questions
20 Dec 2013 22:07 - 20 Dec 2013 22:07
The last thing I have to do to my GPz is replace the decals. I have the decal set already. I have started to remove the old ones, using heat. My questions are these:
The company I purchased them from suggested I use a credit card to squeeze out the bubbles when applying the new ones.. A friend suggested I use a vinyl decal squeegee. I found them on line, but not sure where to find them locally. Since I live in Indy, I have access to just about every type of store, but I don't want to drive all over town looking for them. I checked a number of store web sites, and they are not listed. Any idea where I could find them?
Second, another friend suggested I clear coat over them. I am quite skilled at rattlecan application, but have no clue as to what type/brand of paint to use.
Is this a good idea anyway?
I will probably be selling the bike after I do this, so I don/t want to screw it up.
Thanks in advance.

You might try a sign shop. When I had decals made for my car they gave me one of those squeegee things (better than a credit card because it lets you put more pressure on the decals but has a softer edge too).

Anyplace that sells window tint should have that squeegee. Here's the kit from NAPA.

We have a vinyl graphics department where I work. The application tool that we use is basically a bondo spreader. With a lot of types of material, you might find it very helpful to track down an old windex bottle, fiill with water, and add just a couple drops of dish soap to it. spray your tank, etc., then apply stickers. the small amount of soap will help the graphic, slide into final position, and will also assist greatly in moving any bubbles out from under it. PM me, and I can send you one!

Thanks, Grumpy Ole Artist. Picked some up locally very cheap. Now just have to find the time and motivation to apply the decals.

And what are you going to ride after you sell the GPz? Am I going to have to cruise past your house and go "Na,na,na,na" ?
