 umm can some one tell me how to get the indicator needle off? got the cover off the tach, ordered new decals from reproduction decals, but I am stumped on getting the needle off so I can remove the gauge face. I looked for a thread covering it already but found nothing

Perhaps a watch repair shop might have a hand remover large enough to work, or a clock repair shop.

Got it! they do just "pull off" I stuck a small screwdriver under the brass piece, where it connects to the steel shaft. Good leverage point to "twist" the screwdriver, and got it loose!

the well used method is two spoons, that way you stand less chance of twisting or scratching.

I just did this yesterday!
The way that I found to get my needle off was to take either a really thin pair of needle nose pliers or TWO small screwdrivers at the base of the needle where it has the step where it slides on the shaft and it pops right off. Make sure to do it evenly so you don't bend the shaft.
You have to take the screws out for the face plate and move it up so you can get to it. If you just pry on the head of the needle, you are just going to break it.

Okay, so it's a speedometer instead of a tach. That means your job will be far easier than mine was! Just pry at the step where the end of the screwdriver is and beware because it will probably fire across the room. :woohoo:

Edit: oooops. I missed the post where he said he got it off. Screw it, I'm leaving the post.

Reproduction decals say to sand off the old paint. It's screen printed on not a decal. I think it said start with a 400 grit and finer from there. I stopped at a 800 grit and then messed up the decal appling it(LOL). I then found a speedo on ebay for almost the same price as a new decal.
