I have a 1982 kz1000.......my question: can i use a plastic rear fender (cowl) from other years? Found a rear cowl from 1980 shaft drive and dont want to buy it if it wont fit......thanks for your help......

From Kawasaki.com or Partzilla: the E2 Shaft fender is completely different from the CSR's. The Spectre Rr fender looks the same as the CSR in the diagram drawings - ie, same shape & bolt holes. Raise the seat & look at your chrome fender & compare it to the drawings or ebbaayy photos.

Edit: was just clarifying exactly what you needed - the CSR doesn't have the attachment points for a ducktail/cowl.

Will do....just thought it was a question worth askin...new to the kz so dont know the interchangeable parts yet

Ask around on some of the blogs that are big on chopping and bobbing metric bikes. Chances are somebody will have advice for you and a cowl that will match. That was the first think I chucked on my bike.

If you do go with a cowl and removed the chrome fender, look at where the cowl will mount. If the mount bolts or whatever you're using aren't going to show, you could cut and/or drill a cowl to fit the bike.

When you're done or even while this is in progress, post pictures.
