Z1 Aftermarket pre-painted tank & panels

I at the point in my 73 Z1 resto where I am ready for paint. I need both new side covers. The duck tail needs work. And the tank has 5 small dents. It has been painted silver in the past and needs to be stripped and blasted.

Then there is the question of getting it painted correctly. I have chosen to do it in the Candy Green and Yellow.

My questions are:
Have any of you used the pre-painted aftermarket tanks and panels offered for sale by Z1 Enterprises and others?
How was the quality of the tank and panels compared to original?

Considering how much I'll have to pay for bodywork and painting services, it might be worth it to just buy the aftermarket package at $1200 + tax and shipping. Depends mostly on the quality of the tank and paint.

Your opinions?

Cheers,
Ross

I have had the oppertunity to paint the Z1.net (different company than z1e and the quality
of the plastics was awesome they offeer unpainted tanks as well havent looked to see if they offered painted sets

I assume Z1E and Z1.net use the same MFG of the plastics if I had to guess paint werks has probably set a deal with both of those places you will get a as near perfect match as you can
tell because there isnt going to be one that is new to compare it to the true 30 yeR OLD Z1 WITH NO PAINT work is 30 years old paint will change left in the dark for a year letalone 30

the new term for restoration paint jobs is our version of joe blow green or the orifginal colors halof the bikes you see will be some ones version of the orginal so who really cares if its john jacobs or paintwerkdks or mills bodyshop if not one of them can tell you theres is correct and yours isnt. remember if its original its faded for 30 years and Z1E iseems pretty reputable

I'm actually considering getting the set from Reproduction Decals. They are in Ontario Canada and I live in BC, so that's a plus. Their prices are in US $ and a little cheaper than Z1E.

I too assume they get the items from the same supplier. I was just wondering about the quality mostly of the tank itself.

FYI, if you order the chassis decal kits from Z1E, I believe they transfer the order to Reproduction Decals who mail them directly to the purchaser.

So I bit the bullet and ordered the tank/ body kit. It will be delivered directly from the supplier in Japan.

I got a set for my z1b a few years ago and I was very happy with it. The tray might need a little trimming to fit in. I have a z1 with the kelly green colors on it. I have never shown it on here before

The issue you face getting parts shipped directly from Japan is quality. The reason we refuse to do dropship from Japan is there are far too many B grade sets in circulation. There was a very large batch of 'bad' tanks manufactured a year or so ago. These have the petcock area on the tanks misaligned.

We inspect every part to ensure it is perfect before we ship.

BTW, there are at least two different painters of bodywork in Japan. I can only speak for the quality of the one we sell.

I purchased a Z1B set from Z1Enterprises and am very pleased with the quality. Go with Z1Enterprises and not worry about quality control issues.

I guess I'll have to trust to luck, Jeff. I assumed that the sets that Reproduction Decals sells are the same as yours. If I have any issues with them, I'll have to trust that Reproduction Decals will do right by me.

I've ordered some stuff from them in the past with good success, but nothing of this sort. I'll let you all know how it goes. The girl on the phone when I placed my order said that the earliest they would be shipped would be the end of the month, and they would be shipped direct to me.

I ordered the set on Monday the 19th of November. We'll see how it goes.

Cheers,
Ross

It's only a decent price if the quality is there. I'll just have to wait and see. I'll keep you all posted.
