Just remember browns plating for the aluminumparts,its very hard to get anything to stick to aluminum but Ive had good luck with them.
For steel parts just about any decent shop will do.

Doesn't really matter what is first...everything has to be chromed! 
Start on the motor parts and work your way out...

Yes polished aluminum is definately better looking than plated aluminum,but you need to maintain it though
