Light rust in tank, what to do? was created by fxdl2051
Hi guys, what to do? Looks like I've got a bit of rust in the tank of my '79 KZ 1000 ST. Most of the tank looks clean but I'm seeing some small 1x3 inch patching. What to do? Should I just ignore it and run an fuel line filter or something else? I've heard nothing good about Kreem so I'm not sure what if anything I should do about it. I have to rebuild the carbs anyways since the idle was pretty bad and I found some particulate in the float bowels previously.
thanks all, Ken

I've heard good reports on Evaporust. Here's another product that's supposed to work.

I used electrolysis on my GPZ. Search that on the internet. Super easy and pretty much free!

if it aint to late to add, weve been cleaning tanks with vinegar and baking soda, pour some baking soda in the tank first then fill it with vinegar, next grab a piece of metal and a battery charger, connect the positive to the piece of metal and make sure it only makes contact with the vinegar, DO NOT LET IT TOUCH ANYTHING, connect the negative anywhere outside the tank so it could make some ground, let it sit for a day and watch the majic happen, once its done, flush the solution out, rinse with gas to clean out the left over residue and fill it up with gas again, thatll keep it from rusting again, oh and make sure to always keep it full if u can, i did that with many tanks and they are still up and running, ;)

Patton,
Does this stuff work good? I seen it localy, but didn't buy any.
My tank had 1/4 of sludge in it, after dumping out the 23 year old varnish inside. I did like this video, but I still have some light rust.

Something to watch out for is that the rust may be worse than expected. I didn't think mine was that bad, so I did a quick 50:50 muriatic acid & water treatment. It cleaned the rust at the opening nicely, but I discovered later that there was a lot of rust in the nether reaches of the tank, as the petcock fuel screen became clogged w rust particles.
