Trying to do a little cleaning and polishing on my clutch cover.

It's looking pretty good, but the black around the "Kawasaki" text isn't really there.

Has anybody tried paiting this with high temp paint? Or do you just let the black tarnish produced from polishing work it's way down in there to darken it up?

Permanent and perpetual noob.

wireman's solution will work and I also have used semi-gloss PJ1 black applied with a small brush.

Here's my method. I did the engine cover in the photo real quick like.
Clean & polish the part first. Remove any loose paint if necessary, of course.
Wipe the areas to be painted w denatured alcohol, then use a tack cloth to remove any lint.
Then put a little wheel bearing grease on your finger by just touching the grease
Pat the grease onto the raised areas that you don't want painted. It doesn't take much grease at all.
Spray the part w engine paint.
Let it dry to the touch, then wipe off the raised areas.

On the perimeter of the engine covers I used masking tape - applied quickly.
Then the grease. If you get any overspray, it wipes off the polished part easily.

I tried the sharpie and it kind of worked. It's certainly a little darker than it was before, but I haven't decided if that's good enough or if I'm going to paint it.

FWIW, I used some DEI high temp exhaust paint, looks ok. The Sharpie trick is a good for touch-up.

Sure it looks OK now, but wait until I really make it pretty, with some chrome and paint and some new tires and grips and the wiring. Don't forget the gearing, and the LED's and, and, and....

The sharpie is used for touch ups all over my Kaw. I used the touch up (black) that you buy for chips on your car, with the small brush. It takes just a short time and if you make a mistake and hit the letters or outside where the aluminum is smooth, you can use a finger nail to remove. Mine was done 2 years ago and has held up well.
Good Luck

That's a great idea and I think I have some of that around the house somewhere. I wouldn't have thought it would hold up to the heat, but two years is pretty good. That's worth giving a shot.

I soaked my stator cover in carb cleaned to remove old paint...it took 10 mins for paint to bubble and a soft brass brush removed any paint. Finished cleaning cover, polished cover and used motor coater paint semi-gloss black to fill black back in....looks brand new. Have about 1 hour total in refinishing cover. Some paint got on raised fins and letters so I used 4000 grit sand paper to remove dried paint.

I used a spray can of gloss engine paint on my covers . I mask off the outside limits of the area to be painted then after paint I take a clean rag and wipe off the areas on Karata clutch and points cover to be left exposed while paint is still tacky.
