I would like to put a radio on my bike and I was looking around on ebay and there are some prices for the radio boxes in the early and mid hundreds.

I kinda wanna know if they will all interchange before i spend THAT kind of money on one.

Or does anyone else have a more accurate name or what i have to get/put in to get a radio on my bike? I wanna search and find/buy one cheap if possible, But mainly i just need to know what works and what wont.

Anyone have pictures or experience doing this?

Get yourself a Vetter fairing. They can typically be fitted with Vetter Sound stereos and speakers. An upgrade to an MP3 stereo is about $40.
There's a tonne of Vetter fairings constantly floating around for cheap if you're willing to take the time and look. Shipping is the main cost due to their size and weight.

I've got one of the old Rooster fairings in black if you're interested. The only fork-mounted fairings that Vetter produced. It already has speakers, the stereo is missing the plastic doohickey on one knob. Let you have it for cheap, don't think I'm going to get around to restoring it anytime soon. They can look pretty decent on a larger bike. Tend to make smaller ones like my 440 look retarded.

Hey Ramtough, could you post some links? I'd like to find something that won't kill my battery at a stop light.

Have any pictures of the rooster? I would love to see it and what you would take for it.

Also, Ramtough, I would love to know what options you have other than trying to keep earbuds in while wearing a helmet...my head is abnormally large so earbuds SUCK while trying to get my head in a helmet.

I don't have any pics of mine mounted but fleebus has a pic in the gallery:

and 79MKII posted some of a Rooster on his ride a while back.

It needs some work, so I'd give it to you for what I paid for it. My plan was to paint it glossy black with some new Vetter badges, put a $40 mp3 stereo in it and maybe some new speakers and windscreen bolts.

They're supposed to be a lot lighter and smaller than other Vetter fairings, so less dive on the forks, with the same wind protection. And tunes, of course :)

I put a Bluetooth unit in my helmet. It's a Uclear HBC100. It sells on the Uclear site for about $150 now. It allows me to listen to my smart phone with mp3s, the navigator in the phone and make phone calls. (not recommended while riding). The microphones are a part of the earphones. I don't know it's in there if I'm not listening, and no wires. The sound quality is excellent!
