I am planning on painting my bike since it came in primer black. I am considering using Duplicolor Metalcast for the job.

Since this is essentially a tinted acrylic clearcoat I will have to beforehand spray it with an aluminum base coat ahead of time.

The bike already has a black primer coat on it but I dont know what they used. they did the tank, side covers, and exhaust pipes. (it doesnt have the rear fender)
Should I strip it and start over, using the directions suggested by Duplicolor and spraying the adheasion/alluminum/Metalcast
Leave it on and correct any blemishes and then aluminum/Metalcast (i'm not sure how to fill in scratches from use)
Or Strip it and primer/Aluminum/Metalcast?

Strip it! You don't know whats under that flat black. Would not be good to spend money and time just for it not to last due to bad prep work that you had nothing to do with..... :pinch:

primer is a good way to hide bad prep work I would recommend sanding it out before
spraying any paint on it.

thanks for the responses, I will strip it!

I kinda stripped a spot under the filler cap and there was still factory paint and rust.
