Painting Over Chrome
30 Jul 2012 16:28
I am thinking of painting my V&H megaphone until I can find a replacement. What do I need to do fro prep? No rust, just dull with a lot of haze. Thanks

Chrome plating should be roughed up, to allow the paint to "stick", otherwise, it will flake off. I suppose if you don't have access to a bead/sandblaster, some 180 grit wet sandpaper will work, just wash off the part afterwards for a good paint job.
If possible, let it air dry for an hour and try to bake the completed paint project in an oven at 300F for another hour. the baking will make for a durable finish.

I can't bake it but could put it in a closed vehicle in the sun for a day and then hopefully the heat from riding it will help. Thanks
