Painting Chrome

I'm getting ready to paint my engine with silver engine paint. The PO put chrome covers on the engine and I don't want the chrome look. Can I paint over the chrome and will those parts match the paint on the engine cases? What do I have to do to prepare the chrome for painting other than cleaning it really good? Thanks for your help.

The best thing to do is to retract the chrome electro-chemically at a facility that does chroming. The next best thing is to sandblast the parts. You can also use acid, but that would demand great care in many ways.

Or sell or trade your chrome covers for non plated ones.
