Hello All,

many restaurations are not complete cuz people are feared to open the clocks becouse of the surrounding chrome rings. Open them with a screwdriver gives a very bad result by reassembling and it`s very hard to fit the lower gasket in cuz you can`t press the speedo mug and the clock itself together. Old bikes have mostly a blurred red area, blurred cursor tops and dirty glasses. In my opinion even a expensive restauration is worth nothing when you as a rider have allways the view on old, worn parts.

I describe the way I doing it with near no costs and affort on my last 2 restaurations I did lastr year. Pls forgive me my english - I promise my german is much better. But the pics will help you to understand what I did and what you need to do the same.

Opening the clocks. Use a Dremel or a small steelsaw to CUT them apart. Don`t be afraid, you don`t see it afterwards.

After you get rid of the chrome ring deassemble the clocks, bring the mugs for powdercoating or chrome or just give them new paint. I decided against paint becouse the speedos are allways in front of the wind and weak against stonechips. Igot a pair if spare clocks and brought one pair for chroming the mugs and the other to powdercoating.

After you deassembled your clocks clean the glass carefully, the rubberparts as well and give the rubbers some siliconespray. Don`t forget to get some neon orange paint in a modelshop for the cursors and paint them.

When you got your mugs bag assemble everything, put them carefully in a bench vise to press the parts together. Use a piece of towel to protect the surfaces!! Buy a hose clamp for 2 dollars in your hardware store with a diameter fitting your clocks. Now put the chromering carefully back on his place and take care that the cutten/open end is on the place INSIDE the instrument cluster that you don`t see it in mounted condition on your bike.

Press the chromering carefully with screwing the hose clamp tight until it sits properly on your instrument. Than take a drop of 2K glue and put it on the DOWNSide of the cutten end. Give it time to dry., complete your clocks with the lower mugs and you`re done with clocks looking like new.

If you`re clockfaces are blurry or you just want something individual go to specialists like Steve (find his adress on the pic with the blue Honda clockfaces) and order some new sheets. For this you have to dissamble the cursors. You can mount them off easily with 2 teaspoons. Place them right and left beside the cursoraxle and press them CAREFULLY down. Don`t do this in your garage or outdoors cuz the released cursors fly like hell! Do it in your livingroom that you have a chance to find them!! The new sheets are on selfglueing vinyl and get glued on your old clockfaces.

Sorry for bad grammar and typos - I hope you understand the way anyways.

Best,
Igor

Good work. I have to do this too and this will be helpful.

Your English is much better than my German (none) so don't be concerned.
