ROAD RASH ALTERNATOR COVER was created by lemo32
Has anybody used J.B. Weld on a rashed out cover, I dont want to buy a new one right now, my thinking is to just fill in and sand down everthing, paint with a high engine paint, may post some before and after pics if it turns out ok. If somebody has a better Idea would like to hear from them!

I did, it's holding fine so far and looks a lot better than it did.
I painted over with VHT rollbar paint and found that I needed to wait a week, sand it level and paint it again.
Try your best to get all the scratches out if you use VHT because it shows everthing.

There is also an epoxy in a two part syringe that I would probably try next time,
the JB weld was very porous and soaked the paint up so you can still see the patch a little, but as I said it looks much better than it did.

I used JBweld and newspaper to fill a hole in my KZ650 cover where the bolt to hold the kick starter on punched right through the cover. Set JB weld around the hole put some newspaper over it and skimmed over the paper. I tried without the paper and the JBweld just wanted to go down into the hole in to the crankcase. Worked for me and I did not even have to paint the cover as the hole is behind the kicker and is unseen. Epoxy putty will do a fine job too in certain situations.

I think it all depends on how thick the cover is and how much damage was done. A picture might help.

My points cover had major road rash and looked like a piece of garbage so I ended up taking 1/16" (or more) of material off with 60 grit sand paper before moving to gradually finder sand paper (I only went as fine as 400). I wanted to leave my "DOHC" emblem intact so I had to leave the damage within the recessed emblem area. It is somewhat rounder than the factory but looks okay.
I don't know how bad the damage is on yours so I don't know how much material would be left at the end. This worked for me but may or may not for you.

Sadly I don't have a good before picture but I have an after with some rusty screws holding it on
