Hey guys. I never would have thought that 30 year old carbs could look like this. I stripped, wet sanded, and polished carb tops and bowls with black and then white polishing compound.

I have the rest soaking in pinesol for a couple of days before I put it all back together again with carb rebuild kits.

One more step closer to finishing her.

Very nice, please post some pic's when you get them all together.
Your bike is going to look brand new when it done, probably better B)

I had to give up on polishing, my hands started to hurt too much and I ran out of time.

Thanks guys. I will post pic of finished carbs.

It is amazing how much it hurts to sand and polish pieces so small. I was hurting last night for sure, especially my shoulders and back from standing over that bench buffer for so long.

I know the feeling Gwolever, The anticipated results is the only thing that keeps me at it. I just did my carb tops a few days ago. Going through the different levels of sand paper grits, I get discouraged when I know I have a couple of grits to go. But I plod on. And finally, a quick polish on the wheel and it all becomes worthwhile. I have put some those work shop rubber mats in my tool room. Helps my old bones a bit.

Good looking carbs! :cheer:

But guessing the days of reaching deeply down into nicks and crannies with that copper wire brush are pretty much over.

Nobody: Those pieces look great! Great work on those carbs.

I finished rebuilding mine today. I had everything but the tops and bowls in Pinesol for 2 days. 4 carb kits later and done.
