81 KZ550 A2 / Need a windscreen what to look for? was created by elby2282
I am trying to find the best windscreen for my 1981 KZ550 A2. I am not sure if they made any for them at that time. I have looked at some of the posts and seen some websites but I can't tell if they would work for me. I am a KawNoob.I see alot of people using GPZ fairings but I dont know how to go about finding these. I am also interested in this, I would like it to be as 1981 as possible but If i need to use a different models fairing that would be fine. Any suggestions out there?

This is where I was pointed to before I got onto KZRider, the GPz550 stuff I can find on their has square spot for headlight so i can't use it. I might not be looking as thoroughly as I should in their though.

I think any fairing addition is going take some modifications and removal of stock parts. Even the the old Vetter Windjammer fairings with proper mounting brackets required removal of turn signal stems, headlight bucket and wiring mods.

el, the Maier "imitation" GPZ fairing comes in two sizes w/round headlight holes. I ran the smaller one on my 550 A2 for a couple years, & was happy with the looks. It makes the A2 look sorta like a small Z1R in profile. Be aware, It gives little if any wind protection, & like all of it's ilk leaves open areas around instruments & t/s's lending an "unfinished" look (imhop) luck g/

Ebay in the UK usually comes up trumps so should work in US.
What I have done is buy original or replica ones from early gpz550/750's and then use the square headlight from gpz750/z750 L range or the cheapest route get one off a GT550 shaft drive (not sure if you had them in US but they are common as muck here)
