I know that there have been these products around for a long time but this is the first time I ever tried one.
I'm on a budget and can't replace everything that is rusted like fenders, pipes , ect....

I am however tearing down the entire chassis and removing every nut and bolt and cleaning them up.
But the chrome is a problem.
I'm talking about the hidin stuff mostly, the exposed stuff I can clean up good enough.

I thought about silver paint and may still go over this stuff with it, but the few things I used the rust converter on look a hell of a lot better than the rust did.
The product I used says that if I don't want to paint it just give it one more coat.

Has anyone used this stuff before ?
Is it any good ?
Will it hold up in a hot application, like exhaust pipes ?

my guess is no it wont hold up, sand ur header down ( use 80 grit) and use some flat black header paint, looks good and budget friendly

I am sure there have been strides made in coatings in the last decade but I still have to believe rust is cancer and will continue to eat through metal I am sure coating it slows the process but if you have the capability to sand it off then coat it you will be alot better off.

If you can take the chrome parts off and soak them in a bucket of oxalic acid or maybe wrap your exhaust pipes with rags soaked with oxalic acid that should clean it up pretty well.

For painted steel, KBS products work great! www.kbs-coatings.com/

I have painted frames and other parts with KBS and afterwards, no rust.

I am getting the frame down to clean metal and brush priming all the welds and tight spots before I spray on the primer.
No restorer being used on the frame,it needs rust to work.

I'm hoping I can find someone reasonable to powder coat the swing arm, if not I will use the same process on that.

But the chrome is very pitted in spots and I can't get all of the rust,I figured I would give it a shot, the nice thing about this stuff is it soaks into the seams and hidden spots.

My concerned as to whether or the rust restorer can hold up to heat.
I'm afraid that it will cook off and stink all summer

I heat my house with a wood burning stove so my plan is to coat some rusty steel and give it a test.
I hope I don't sink the joint out :pinch:

The fronts of the exhaust pipes still look good enough and I've never been a fan of painting them because to me it looked like a cover up for bad tuning.
But that will be my next choice if this doesn't pan out.

Test Over,
I just called Rust-oleum and talked to Nicole, she said that the product I'm using is only good to 200 Deg.
After that it starts to bubble and flake.

I think I'll use silver engine paint instead .
