Looks great and it came with new hardware to boot!

I had a Corbin Gunfighter on it and it just didn't look right with the stock tailpiece. The flat seat just looks better IMHO.

I just got mine from Z1 parts - but I haven't put it on yet. Too cold outside/no heated garage.
I am keeping my stock seat in case I sell it or want to put it back on because of what some of you guys are saying. It is nice to hear all the opinions.
Diamondskyblue1000, that's the look I'm after. Nice!

Please heid the warning there is a time when a flat seat is like a slide and you will find your self streched out and holding on lol. I found that my winter gear and flat seat made a slick combo.

Quick Fix with a steak knife and recover now my but seems planted and the bike is alot more Fun to launch lol

Can you get seats new anymore for 1979's or aftermarket seats? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

G'day guys,

I can't believe I was just about to make a post with the same question - I have an 82 KZ1000 and was wondering if the seats on other models simply "bolt on bolt off".

Does that mean if I find a straight seat advertsied on Ebay for an earlier model - as long as it's a KZ - I should be fine ? Any seat I get will have to be from the States, so I'm relying on your info.

I just like the look of the earlier "straight" seats.

Thanks, ;)

Believe it's more complicated than that. You'll likely have to migrate your current mounting equipment over to the new pan in the same location as your current pan. And that's if the pans are the same size/shape.

As I recall, all KZ900-1000 seats are interchangeable but only from 1976 to 1980.
Give Z1 Enterprises a holler.

prm your frame cannot use the seat from an 80 or earlier without frame modifications which would also effect your side cover mounting.

a little time with a sawzall tubing bender and welder and you could make it look like it came that way tho.

i have been trying to talk someone into removing the rear subframe and building a new one that would use the earlier model seat tailpiece and side covers.

you could be first we can talk you through it  .

KZ900 & KZ1000 seat pans are interchangeable from 76-78. 79 or 80 MKll has a completely different seat pan but 79-80 LTD's had the old style seats.

I'm also looking for a replacement seat because the monstrosity I have on mine from the PO is ugly. So I was wondering if the ELR or the one under It on the American classix site will fit my 81 kz1000 csr.
