anybody ever use a universal cafe tail? was created by haggard scott
im setting up a 81 kz550 as a daily rider while im working on m y 1000 and ive seen some universal cafe tails online and i was curious if anyone here has used one and how they liked them. i figured it would be quick and easy but if you can let me know your thoughts on them

I use the CB75021M made by airtech streamlining. It's a great piece, and I think it only has two negatives (one in most cases). Firstly, for me it was a bit too long and I had to cut about 5 inches off the front (not a big deal really), and secondly it does not follow the lines of my frame, as the seat is just flat and straight. I corrected this by using a small piece of plywood about 1/4" thick. This leveled the seat on the bike, and made it easier for me to mount using basic door hinge hardware. Even without foam on it, it is much more comfortable to sit and ride than the stock seat was (at least for me). If I had the money, I probably would have had something custom made...but this serves its purpose well for me.

thanks foor the tip about airtech. they do have some nice tails plus it looks like i can make it follow the frame nice

You're welcome. They make great products, but be warned that they do them all by hand and tend to be backed up. I ordered my piece in the spring last year, and I think it took somewhere between 6 and 8 weeks to get it. They did give me a close estimate when I placed my order, and I don't ever think about the time spent waiting for the parts anymore.

yeah i used their bodywork on my 636 stunter and it did take a few weeks to get it but they do make a good product so its worth it. as long as i can get everything done this winter ill be happy
