Hey guys!

Im in the middle of a Z1 project now. And im starting to look for the candy brown color. But I cant seem to find it anywhere. There is no forums, sites or any companies that I could find that knows where I can find it.

If I had a an old gastank or something like that to go on, I could "tone" the color my self with help from a bike painter close to me. But even he has no clue on where to start, hehe.

There is one guy that sells the paintkit from the states ', but he uses waterbased color, and that is crap. So last chanse is to buy a kit from him, then use that to get the right tone with the thinner paint.
Another thing might be to see if I can find a Zephyr in the candy brown color. On picture, they look awful a lot like the Z1 original paint. Might be able to tone from that?

Anyone of you sitting on some good tips? :)

Try www.paintworkz.com I'm not sure if this the fellow you referred to in your post, but the owner Ralph is very helpful and is one of the few who is able to reproduce the original Z1/A/B paint formulae. The Zephyr painted in Z1 colors is likely a repaint.

Yeah, just wanna get as close as i can to the original paint. But ralph might be a good idea to buy from. Can always use that color to make it with thinner-base

73 Z1 brown is a tri-coat color.....black base, silver flake mid coat, candy orange top coat. Flake size and type for the midcoat is the important part for getting it close to orginal.

Do the right thing! Pay Ralph @ Paintworks!
He is the best. Always there for information.
Buy his kit or have him Paint your parts.
If your restoring a 73 Z1, then invest into it!
Plain and simple. Money does not matter, if it is a love of the machine.
Just my opinion. Just like when I was a kid and wanted a Harley in the post Carter, inflation era when interst rates were 18% for good credit applicants. I did not ask how much? But, where do I sign?
Hope someone gets my point.
By the way, I had a KZ 900 when I bought my Harley, which I still own today.
Pay the man !!

Haha and Ralph is here! :D

Hey m8. As you can see ive bin having problems finding the right codes for the Z1. Seems like you have a waterbased kit that I can buy from your page?
We have bin painting with waterbased before, and it became shiet, hehe so we went back to sikkens thinner based colors. And im thinking of buying a kit from you, then use it to tone a thinner based color =)

I am confused by your reference to "thinner colors". My colors are either acrylic lacquer which you would thin out with lacquer thinner, or Urethane which you would thin out with base coat reducer. I do not use water base paint.
