I have a bit (almost impercetible but there) of side-to-side play in the rear wheel of my KZ1000J2. Any ideas as to cause and if I need to worry about it? Thanks.

hey grumpy , is the play at the axle or swing arm pivot ? if it the axle , maybe some bearings would fix it. i had some side to side play at the swing arm pivot ,about a 16th of an inch, even with the swing arm pivot bolt torqued to spec. i took the swing arm pivot bolt out far enough to put in a copper washer between the frame and the swing arm cap and torqued to spec . seemed to fix mine perfectly , zero play and the copper washer is softer than the parts its between. my bike is an 82 750, hope this helps.

I'd pull the rear wheel and see if the rubber "Cush" drive is coming apart. They can go bad, making you think a bearing is going out or swingarm problems.

Thank you guys. It appears to be at the axle and everything seemed to be OK about 3K miles ago when I changed the rear tire. Not sure if this condition was present then or not. Will take it apart and check it out.
